About

Who is Ya-Chun B Chi?

I’m a queer Taiwanese Canadian (they/she) Registered Clinical Counsellor and Approved Clinical Supervisor candidate, working on the unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh nations, otherwise known as the Vancouver Lower Mainland, BC. Since 2014, I’ve had the privilege of walking alongside people through healing of many kinds, and I now support counsellors on the path to RCC registration through online clinical supervision.

“My mission is to motivate, guide, and advocate, and to help people who need support by empowering them to make informed decisions in their community. I believe that healing begins when we can find safe spaces where we can be unapologetically and whole-heartedly ourselves, without fear of judgement."

I hope to offer that same safe space to you as a clinician.

Why I supervise the way I do

I grew up between two cultures, Taiwanese and Canadian, in a traditional, religious, and conservative household. I learned early what it means to be a bridge, to integrate different values and norms, and to reconcile my truth with the expectations around me. Later, after a late ADHD diagnosis during COVID, I spent years learning to unmask after living most of my life masking.

Those experiences shape my supervision. I know what it’s like to feel pressure to perform “professional” at the cost of being yourself, and I know the guilt, shame, and anxiety that come up when parts of your life are at odds with each other. I want you to become a skilled, ethical clinician without shrinking the parts of you that make you good at this work. I may also code-switch from time to time to meet you where you’re at.

How I approach supervision

  • Structure and accountability. Clear agreements, regular sessions, and organized documentation, so your path to registration never feels like a scramble.
  • Honest, kind feedback. Case consultation, ethical decision-making, and skill development, with the expectation that growth sometimes means discomfort.
  • Whole-person support. Identity, culture, neurodivergence, and burnout are all fair game, because they shape how you show up with clients.
  • Your growth, your direction. I’m here to guide, not to hover. My goal is to work myself out of a job.
